An order by a Kilifi court has allowed police to detain eight students for 14 more days. This comes after the suspects were arrested on suspicion of arson at Godoma Boys Secondary that claimed a life.
The arson attack happened on Monday 4AM, claimed a life of a Form 2 student. Fadhil Hassan, a 17 year old was trapped inside the dormitory when the suspects allegedly set it on fire.
The deceased was buried on Tuesday at the Jomvu Muslim Cemetery in Mombasa. The suspects are held at the Bamba Police Station as police conduct their investigations.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation officer in charge of the case told the Senior magistrate Justus Kituku that he needed time to complete his investigations before preswnting them to the court. He claimed 24 hours required by the law was not enough considering the matter.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the late Fadhil was left inside the dormitory when others left for their morning routine. The incident occurred while he was still inside the dormitory.

Romours has it that the dormitory was locked from outside during the incident. Also, there was student unrest as form fours had demanded to go home before the upcoming exams. This they did through the school’s suggestion box.
A roll call was taken after the incident, three students were missing, two were accounted for as they had gone home, one was missing. That’s when the security and teachers began the search finding the body of Fadhil Hassan in the burnt dormitory.
This vice has been rampant in recent years and it’s time tougher measures are taken. This is to curb this menace and ensure a repeat never happens. Proper communication channels in schools should be encouraged to limit speaking through actions.
