The opposition party has tabled seven demands by ODM leaders following the disruption and the scuffle that ensued after an alleged attack by South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro’s goons at Simba Arati’s functions.
According to reports, the first incident happened when Arati attended a funeral in South Mugirango. Individuals with alleged ties to South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro disrupted the event, openly firing arrows at mourners, despite the presence of police.
Issuing a statement, ODM Secretary General Edqin Sifuna said that two days later, another organised disruption happened when Arati was distributing bursary forms in Nyakembene, South Mugirango. Then, armed individuals disrupted the event shooting aimlessly injuring scores of attendees.

“The ODM party expresses serious concern about the life and safety of its National Vice-Chair and Kisii Governor Simba Arati following repeated violent attacks perpetrated by known persons in broad daylight with what appears to be tacit support and collaboration with elements in the security forces”
Seven Demands By ODM Leaders With Immediate Effect
This has prompted seven demands to be tabled by ODM leaders to protect the life of the governor and the people of the county from organised violence attacks on the governor’s meetings.
- Immediate transfer of Kisii County Commander by Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome
- Officers identified perpetrating attacks to be held accountable and actions taken against them
- Immediate interdiction of the officers involved as they wait for their court day.
- Sylvanus Osoro, the Member of Parliament, South Mugirango to record a statement about the two incidents.
- Investigations into the matter by Independent Police Oversight Authority to commence immediately.
- Actions on the demand to be made within the 14 days of the release of the statement.
- ODM will pursue other avenues to ensure law and order is mantained IF their demands are not met within the stipulated time frame.

Officers identified include; Constable Kevin Lagat of Force Number 26085 attached to Osoro, Peter Muge of force number 239197 and Simon Muriithi of force number 119319 all attached to Nyanchwa Police Station
