Another tragedy has struck the Athletics fraternity after a kenyan athlete collapsed and died after a race in Cameroon barely a month after Kelvin Kiptum’s Death.
According to reports, Charles Kipsang Kipkorir, the kenyan athlete, collapsed moments after finishing a race and later passed on while being resuscitated in hospital.
Kipkorir was taking part in the 29th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope when he stuttered metres to the finish line before collapsing.

Before the momentary stop, Kipkorir was leading the race but later finished in 16th place according to Cameroonian Governor Bernard Okalai Bilia.
However, After crossing the finish line, he collapsed on what has been suspected to be a heart attack pending medical investigations. Medics present in the race at Molkyo Stadium tried to administer first aid before he was rushed to Buea Regional Hospital.
“We cannot say exactly what happened. We might believe that it is something like a heart attack. We were informed that when he was going to collect his prize, he fell and collapsed. They carried him to the Regional Hospital, he had already passed away.”
Kipkorir who was at 33 years of age at the time of his passing, was the star of the event, having been the first foreign athlete to register for the Cameroon mountain race, Africa’s oldest international athletic competition.

He was at the peak of his career and was living up to his billing after he took a commanding lead in the race before collapsing. Among the races that Kipkorir has participated in include the Bali Marathon, the Kuala Lumpur Marathon and the Casablanca Half Marathon.
This comes days after the kenyan and current world record holder Kelvin Kiptum was laid to rest in his home.
