Former Tanzania President, Ali Hassan Mwinyi, is dead as announced by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Ali Hassan Mwinyi was the second president of Tanzania taking over from mwalimu Julius Nyerere in 1985. He ruled Tanzania for ten years during which he left office in 1995.
Hassan was hospitalised in February 24th 2024 for chest illness during which he has been in hospital since then till today, when he passed on.

The former President died aged 91 and he was hospitalised in Emilio Mzena hospital, Dar es Salaam. President Samia Suluhu has ordered all tanzania flags to be raised half way from March 1st 2024.
President Suluhu also gave orders that the former president will be laid to rest at his home, Unguja, Zanzibar island on 2nd March 2024.
Mwinyi will be remembered in Kenya for his role in fostering diplomatic relations between Kenya and Tanzania during his presidency from 1985 to 1995.
He worked closely with Kenyan leaders to strengthen cooperation between the two neighbouring countries, particularly in areas such as trade, security, and infrastructure development.

Additionally, he played a significant role in mediating regional conflicts and promoting peace and stability in East Africa.
