Women from Kiambu have raised alarm over alcoholism in Kiambu that has pushed men away from performing their marital duties at home.
The women complained of their men drinking from as early as 6 am until late in the night absconding from working and their homely duties. A move they say have left them “starving” due to alcoholism.
The women had vowed to burn down notorious bars in the area where their men reside all day long. This prompted the area security administration to step in and hold a baraza to resolve the brewing conflict.

Due to this, the baraza resolved to ordering six bars operating in Ndumberi in Kiambu County on Thursday to be closed indefinitely due to the rising complains.
Lucy Njeri, a resident, said that she is a victim since most of her family members have become alcohol addicts.
“I support that the bars be closed since I am a victim as the family I am from, drink alcohol and they have been affected as they cannot do any work. They sit idle all day.”

According to Njeri, alcoholism in Kiambu has led to many youths refusing to marry because of fear of responsibilities. All they want is to drink.
“The village has so many bachelors since men have refused to marry as they do not want responsibilities and the little money they earn from menial jobs ends up buying alcohol.”
Those who were lucky to marry have left their women to fend for themselves and cannot even perform marital duties as they get home late and drunk.
“Men get home late in the night at 2 am after a drinking spree and they cannot be able to lift their hands let alone perform their marital duties.”
