The Kenya Meteorological Department has now issued a floods update in 27 counties after weeks of experiencing high temperatures in these regions
According to reports, anticipated heavy rainfall may lead and result in flooding across these regions that have been marked as highly likely regions.
The regions according to the floods update by the department are Narok, Nakuru, Bomet, Kericho, Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, Homa Bay, Siaya, Uasin Gishu, Kiambu, Nyeri, Murang’a, and Kisumu.

In addition to these regions, Nandi, Vihiga, Kakamega, Busia, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, Turkana, Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and Marsabit will also be likely to experience high rainfall that could potentially lead to flooding.
According to Kenya Met, the aforementioned counties are expected to experience intense downpours from Monday, February 26, through Thursday, February 29.
Residents in all the mentioned areas were advised to be on the lookout for potential floods with the meteorological department adding that flood waters may appear where it has not rained, especially downstream.
“Residents are advised to avoid driving through, or walking in moving water or open fields and not to shelter under trees and near grilled windows to minimise exposure to lightning strikes.”
According to MET Department, The heavy rainfall is likely to be accompanied by gusty winds. Gusty winds may blow off roofs, uproot trees and cause structural damages. Updates will be provided promptly if there are any changes.
This comes five days after the meteorological department warned of continued high temperatures in different parts of the country despite the ongoing rainfall.
Kenya Met in its advisory released on Tuesday, February 19, noted that temperatures in Nairobi and its neighbouring counties of Central Kenya would rise to 31 degrees.
