A developing country like Kenya depends on a strong opposition to thrive. A government destined to fail starts by going to bed with the opposition. Political heavyweights rise through opposition and therefore, we are at a stage where a classic political mind can rise.
Mr Odinga, the Former Prime Minister has been in the opposition for the longest time. He commands the masses. But in the recent past, he’s been silent on whatever is going on in the country. This does not mean we are entitled to see him talk. But this means that someone should take this opportunity and seize it.
Politics in kenya is a game of numbers. Popularity is the card. Starting by being vocal on the misdoings of the government of the day gives you favor in the eyes of kenyans as you rub shoulders with the might. This has both Pros and cons but for political mileage, that’s the card.
The more Odinga is silent, the more the government does the way it pleases. And this is an opportunity for someone, eyeing the long term benefits to step up. Age is doing a toll on Mr Odinga. He still has the strength but his political journey is almost coming to an end because of his age. This is the time someone should step up to show that he can fill his shoes.
A government put in check is a government working. Opportunities like this are not given on a silver platter. They are taken by force. That’s what politics is about. Taking an opportunity when others are waiting for endorsements. Someone got to step up. Someone has to make a move
Playing opposition may have it’s downside but it gives you favor in the eyes of the common mwananchi which then gives you the upper hand in the long term as you will have a loyal following that believes in your ideologies. Time for someone to put his best foot forward.
