A total of 9 Principals have been suspended in the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams. This is due to cheating in KCSE exams
This is due to participation in examination irregularities in their centers. Adding to that number, 46 students have also been implicated for the same.
The cases collected from across the country, according to reports are majorly involving illegal materials and collusion.
This includes foreign materials in exam rooms lile phones, candidate impersonation and collusion between invigilators and candidates.
The Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu confirmed the figures while speaking at Kolanya Girls National School in Teso North, Busia County.
“So far we had 3 cases of collision, 2 impersonations and 9 centre managers. That is the principals, who were manning schools we have sent home. Also 46 candidates were implicated.”
He also added that other than the inventory methods of cheating, the exam is secure and safe from the wrong hands. Therefore noting that the measures in place are working fine. READ: Machogu Introduces New Tactics To Curb Exam Cheating
Confirming these measures, the Education Ps Belio Kipsang said the measures have reduced exam exposure.
“You pick your paper at 1pm you arrive at school quarter to 2pm the exam begins at 2pm. The other one you pick at 7am you drive at quarter to 8am the paper starts at 9 Am. even if you wanted to open in 15 minutes you’ll just end up confusing your candidates. Therefore this time we are good.”
Early exposure has been a leading challenge in the examination malpractices in the national exams. This time, the ministry taking all measures in place to ensure that papers don’t circulate.
The ministry is therefore dealing with rogue invigilators and center managers who are helping students to do cheating in KCSE exams. This is by carrying or distributing foreign materials in the examination rooms. Cases of impersonation have also been reported but the ministry is working to fish more out.
